Unravel Me

Judging by the title, you'd think this was something smutty or you know, adult-ish. But nope, it's a young adult book that I friggin' enjoyed! I don't know why it's categorized as a young adult book though. Seems to me that it's not appropriate for someone under the age of 12. But nah, that's probably just me.

Have you ever bought a book and read it two years after you purchased it? Well that's what happened to me with this book. I read the first book of the series 'Shatter Me' at the beginning of 2014 and fell in love with Juliette and Adam. I don't usually go for dystopian/sci-fi books, but for this one I made an exception. People were raving about how much they loved it and how awesome it was, so I gave it a go. Why I was hesitant to read it was because I don't usually understand the futuristic terms in these type of books, and if I do get it, it takes a long time for it to stick in my head. Before I go on though, can we just appreciate how awesome Tahereh Mafi is? Seriously. Her writing is so darn beautiful!

Back to the book...

Shatter Me, though? Easy peasy lemon squeezy Sadly, I don't have the physical copy of it. Nothing about it was complicated. I loved how Tahereh made the characters so complex and loveable at the same time. I loved Juliette's fragility and Adam's... well hotness. The ending nearly killed me (no, it didn't) that I bought the physical copy of the second book right away. I read the first fifty pages but my anxiety levels was high all because of...

My rant on why I waited two long years...

Why did I put off two years to pick this up? Well, it was all because of a character named Warner. Like any other YA dystopian/sci-fi books out there, there's a love triangle. And as you may know, I was rooting for Juliette and Adam in the first book. But when I read the reviews of the second book and read how obsessed many people are about Warner, I just wasn't sure if I was gonna read it ever again. See, I didn't like Warner. He was creepy, psychotic and a strange 19-year old boy. The thought of Juliette with Warner didn't sit well with me. That's why it took me two long years to finally read this! Because of a fictional character. Pathetic me.

I was watching the 5th Wave last Thursday and loved the dynamic between Cassie and Evan. But at the same time, the thought of Cassie and Ben didn't bother me too much either. Another love triangle, sigh. So anyways, as I sat there watching the movie, my thoughts brought me to this series. I told myself I'll pick up the second book from my bookshelf tomorrow night and give it a try. And I did just that. And was not disappointed at all!

My hate for Warner turned into love in a matter of seconds. I'm not gonna spoil it to you, but basically, Warner is a babe. Comparing Warner and Adam is too complicated, cause they're so different in character. They're different in so many ways, but I do think Juliette and Warner together is more compatible now than her relationship with Adam. You'll know why if you've read the book! Warner is the sweetest guy, ever. Okay maybe not ever, but so far from what I've been reading, he's my favorite book boyfriend. He has a way with words, that's all I can say. And I love guys who can swoon with me words.

Just an FYI, if you're planning on reading this book, you have to read the first one first!

Nothing better than a good ol' snack and a very nice looking bookmark to keep me alert when I'm reading. It's been a long time since I've read a hardcopy of a book, so I was very happy when I got to use the Van Gogh bookmark I got at the Rijksmuseum. Just look at how beautiful the bookmark looks! Now let's get on to some of my favorite quotes from the book!

Favorite Quotes:

  • "Books are easily destroyed. But words will live as long as people can remember them."
  • "Hope. It's like a drop of honey, a field of tulips blooming in the springtime. It's fresh rain, a whispered promise, a cloudless sky, the perfect punctuation mark at the end of a sentence."
  • "Time goes on even when we do not."
  • "Loneliness is a bitter, wretched companion. Sometimes it just won't let go."
  • "The truth", he says, "is a painful reminder of why I prefer to live among the lies."
  • "The books...they helped me keep from losing my mind altogether."
  • "It's just a whisper of a kiss but something collapses in my skull. It's a feather-light brush of his mouth against my skin in a place I can't quite see. It's my mind speaking in a thousand different languages I don't understand."
  • "I'm falling apart and into his heart and I'm a disaster.
And there are a bazillion more quotes that I loved, but I won't put it all up! Because I don't want to spoil anything to you guys! Please recommend me any book in the world that's been on your mind lately. Preferably with a swoon worthy hero in it! Hehehe.

Stay tuned for my review on third installment on this series! It'll be up in a couple of weeks or so. Or maybe in two years? Who knows... :P

P.s, I'm currently in a blog funk. So if there aren't any posts going up this week or the next week, I apologize in advance. Can you guys please give me tips on how to get out of a blog funk?! In dire need of it x

Much love, Ashley xx
