Huntington Library // Part II

Just a 5 minute walk from the Chinese Garden, we found ourselves in the Japanese Garden. I was most excited about visiting this Garden as I thought there would be a bunch of Sakuras scattered around, sadly I was disappointed. I've gotta say that the Chinese Garden was so much better than the Japanese one, there were a lot of staircases that we had to climb through (I loathe stairs) and I honestly though that it could've been better, ya know?! Alas, I had an exercise out of it, so twas fine.

Somehow we found ourselves in the Rose Garden. As it was nearing 3 o'clock, I thought what better way than ending our trip by having Afternoon Tea by the Rose Garden Cafe? That didn't work out in the end as it was a buffet, and we weren't in the mood to eats loads of cakes and scones. A stroll through the garden, we saw loads of beautiful blooming roses in different colors and my oh my did it smell good there.

Last but not least, we visited the European Art section. If you know me well, you know that I'm a big fan of European Art, specifically the 1700's/1800's. They have loads of artworks in that era, and I was the happiest gal around as I strolled the gallery in silence. So glad that there weren't a lot of people around as the last time I was there, a bunch of people were scattered around the gallery, making it so hard to admire each artwork without any disturbance. It was lovely to mooch around the former residence of Henry E. Huntington and his wife Arabella Huntington; Edward was one of the founders of San Marino in 1913 (pretty dang cool!). After his death in 1927, it was written in his will that the collection inside his estate (was worth $50 million, bloody hell) would go public, and it did in 1928!

Before I leave, here's a little fun fact about the Gardens! They were used for filming in a couple of hotshots movies in the past. Here are some that I found rather cool:
  1. Heathers
  2. Charlie's Angels
  3. National Treasure: Book of Secrets
  4. Bridesmaids
  5. G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra
Pretty damn cool, right?! Safe to say that I'll be back to the Library sooner than later. Thinking of being a member too, but eh, we'll think about that later. Have a lovely Sunday everybody!

Address: 1151 Oxford Rd, San Marino, CA 91108, United States.

Much love, Ashley xx
