Battle of the Mauve7:36 PM
Applying lipstick before I head out of the house is a necessity for me. If you asked me about it a year ago, I would say "no" to lipsticks and go on to the world without any smidgen of a product on my lippies. What changed was one night, about six months ago, as I scrolled through pictures that I took from my camera, I looked at some pictures of myself and realized how pale I looked. Took me a while to realize what the problem was, but it's all down to the lips, okay? Whatever color your choice of lipstick is, it's going to look brilliant on you than zombie lips, trust me!
For me, the right color for my complexion is of the darker shade as I'm quite pale. A very autumn-y lipstick, but hey, it fits with every single outfit I wear, so it's all good!
My two holy grail lip products that I wear quite often these past few months are these two. They're both of a mauve shade that has a tint of burgundy added to it too. I thought I'd give a little review on which one I like best, because um, why not?! Without further ado, let's get on to it!
NYX Matte Lip Cream in the shade Cannes ($6.00)
I've had this for half a year now and wore it almost every single time I was out and about for two months straight. The scent of it is of a vanilla scent (quite a strong one) that I have a hate/love relationship with. The problem is, with a vanilla scent, you get nauseated after a few hours after applying it. Also the finish of the lip cream is matte, so it really dries your lips. I like how it looks on my lips from afar. But from a close distance, you can see how drying the product is on the lips. Maybe that's just me though, because my lips are always so dry!
As for the lasting power, it lasts for so long. Don't worry about re-applying the lip cream every few hours, because it'll stay on your lips all day long. It even stays on your lips after you eat and drink. To be honest, I don't know if that's a good thing or not, haha! Removing it on the other hand, is hard. You have to wipe it clean over three or four times to literally get the product off your lips. As for the application, I think it's best to wear it with a lipliner beforehand, because applying it straight from the bullet doesn't look so tidy. Not gonna lie, sometimes when I wear this, I look like I have chocolate pudding all over my lips!

Sephora Lip Stain in the shade Infinite Rose ($14.00)
I bought this when I was in Bangkok when I was in desperate need of a lipstick, because the ligloss that I brought with me wasn't bringing any color to my lips. At first, I was about to buy the lip stain in the shade "Pink Souffle", but decided against it because the shade was exactly the same as the NYX lip cream that I had. Very happy that I chose this shade instead, because IT IS BEAUTIFUL.
Obviously, it has a tint of mauve in it, but with a tint of pink in it too that isn't too pink-y. The application of it is super duper easy, you can wear it sans lipliner and still look like a boss. Suzie from Hello October recently purchased this exact same lip stain and loved it. Like she said, after applying it and smacking your lips the products feels matte, but when you see yourself in the mirror, there's a tiny sheen to it that brings out the whole beauty of this lip stain. As for the longevity, it doesn't last as long as the NYX one, but I promise you, re-applying it a couple of times is easy peasy lemon squeezy! Oh, the scent is not nauseating at all, which is always a plus for moi!
OVERALL RATING: ❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎.5/5
All in all, my favorite lipstick out of these two would probably be the Sephora one. It is more expensive than the NYX one, but I promise you, it's worth the purchase! I love how easy the application process is and how you can wear every single outfit that you wear on a day to day basis!
Which one is your favorite?
Much love, Ashley xx
