Getty Villa // Part I

Hello, hello! Welcoming you to this post from Ancient Greek/Rome. After a hefty lunch at Paraside Cove Beach Cafe (read about that post here), we found ourselves at The Getty Villa located at Pacific Palisades, about ten minutes away from where we were at. As you may all know, I visited The Getty Museum a week prior to my visit here and had a blast, really. So I made this visit a priority before I left sunny LA. All I can say is that, it was worth it. The place is absolutely beautiful and looks straight out of a movie. I do have to say that the artworks aren't as extravagant as the one in The Getty because the artworks here aren't as diverse as the one in LA.

The Getty Villa's main focus is on Ancient Greek and Rome's artwork. The older the artwork, the better it is in my opinion. Crazy that they can conserve artworks from ages and ages ago and still manage to make them look presentable and beautiful. Definitely give this museum a visit, because not only does it have a free admission, but it's located right across the ocean. So you can do what I did! Have lunch by the beach and spend the afternoon in a museum. My safe haven, really.

Figure of Minus and two border panels from the Bear Hunt mosaic / Artist: Unknown / Date: A.D. 300-400
Looking at these mosaic tiles has got me thinking how talented people were in the past. Just think about it! They don't have much resource as we do now and they were able to create something so creative and beautiful without knowing that what they made would be a work of art thousands of years later. That's art right there, people.

Statue of Leda and the Swan / Artist: Unknown / Date: 1st century

My dad was so fascinated by this sculpture as the facial features of the woman looks extremely realistic! Yes, other sculptures are realistic-looking as well, but this one I've got to say, really looks like a human being. Quite scary and fascinating at the same time. :P

Statue of Venus (the Mazarin Venus) / Artist: Unknown / Date: 2nd century
Head of Tiberius / Artist: Unknown / Date: early 1st century
Suffice to say, I had a great hour and a half at The Getty Villa. Escaping from the bustle and hustle of the city to Malibu felt great. And immersing myself in art has got me thinking a lot about how great the world has evolved.

Definitely gonna come back in the future! Be sure to stay in tune for Part II of this post on Wednesday. ❤︎
