Autumn in Seoul

After a 7 hour flight, my family and I finally arrived in Seoul. This trip was unexpected and hastily planned and well, it was a very memorable one. You know what they say, sometimes unplanned plans are the bomb.com. As we arrived in the morning and our check-in time to our hotel was in the afternoon, we all went on a half-day tour to see all the sights in Seoul. I never expected the city to be so beautiful, but dang Seoul, you are one gorgeous city! Very rich in history and am completely obsessed with their architecture!

Now, let's follow me through Seoul, shall we?!

Incheon International Airport 〰️  Blue House

Our first stop was The Blue House. I honestly didn't know what this place was when we first came - then my aunt (who's a big fan of anything and everything Korean) explained to me that this was the place the President of Republic of Korea resided in. A huge scandal about the President was and still is ongoing whilst we were there, so there were tons of police officers surrounding the place. I kid you not, in every single corner there was a police officer standing on guard! It was pretty surreal for someone like to me to experience that, mainly because where I live, it just ain't like that at all.

The most special thing of all was the Autumn leaves, of course. I've never seen it before, so it was a pretty damn cool first experience for me! Aside from Spring - Autumn has got to be my favorite season of all.

Address: 1 Sejongno, Jongno-Gu, Seoul, South Korea

Gyeongbokgung Palace was on the top of the list of places I wanted to visit in Seoul. It was pretty crowded, but not one that was excruciatingly packed that taking pictures was a pain in the butt. I was never a big fan of Asian architectures, after seeing this palace though, I must say that I'm quite fond of it. The intricate details and colors are so beautiful! And to think that it has been there for hundreds and hundreds of years always leave me in awe. I very much enjoyed tons of people dressing up in Hanbok (the traditional clothing of S.Korea), it was fun to capture them in their own element!

After admiring the gates and fortresses of the palace, my aunt and I found a secret garden in the back of the palace and my oh my was it gorgeous. It was such a lovely walk as the autumn leaves accompanied us. I highly recommend visiting this palace if you're ever in Seoul!

Address: 161 Sajik-ro, Sejongno, Jongno-Gu, Seoul, South Korea

I've always been a fan of anything traditional or historical, so to be able to see the quaint Korean houses in Bukchon was an amazing experience. The climb through the village was quite a hike, was left a bit tired by the end of the day! One thing that you must do whilst walking up and down the village is to remain silent as the residents of the village must be disturbed if the hordes of tourists were talking a mile a minute the whole day. And can I just say how picturesque everything is in the village?! Seriously wish I lived there. *sigh*

I absolutely love the view that you get from up the village. It was hazy the afternoon we went there, but my oh my, what a view it was. Doesn't hurt that the whole neighborhood was so lovely to stroll through, there are a few shops and small little kiosks that are worth to peek in at!

Address: Gye-dong, Jongno-Gu, Seoul, South Korea

I was quite knackered by this point, but with the package that we had on the tour, we then headed Insadong to peek in at the little shops they have there (such bargains!) and a little peek around the lives of the people of Seoul. Our last and final stop of the tour was the Cheonggyecheon River; stayed for only a couple minutes as I was dire need of a shower and the temperatures began to drop.

My first day in Seoul was a tiring, but very adventurous one. One that I'll not forget in forever me thinks. We stayed at the Skypark Central Hotel in Myeongdong which is such a great hotel as it's just a few minutes walk from all the shops! Despite being knackered, we had a lovely time exploring Myeongdong. I'm still feeling the blues at the moment (a very terrible one at that), seriously wish I could go back ASAP.

Much love, Ashley xx

  4. Great pictures! You've managed to do a lot in a single day. The political climate here now is crazy. It's actually considered one of the biggest protests to happen in decades since the scandal.

  6. As you said, sometimes unplanned trips are the best. You don't know what to expect and just do what you feel like doing. Seoul is one of the places I'd like to visit one day, the architecture of the traditional buildings always seem to impress me! Even though it was a tiring day, I am sure it's all worth it :)
