The Getty // Part II

Welcome to the second and last part of The Getty! If you haven't checked out the first one, check em' out here. Without further ado, let's get on the post shall we?! Pretty exciting as we got to see another artwork by Vincent Van Gogh. Seeing his artwork last year in Amsterdam was pretty surreal, so to be able to see another piece here in LA, was even more surreal!

We also saw a few of Rembrandt's work, but unfortunately the pictures didn't turn out the way I wanted them to be. That again, was pretty cool to look at! I just love the fact that paintings from years and years ago are being conserved for people to see in the present and the future. Very cool indeed.

Head of Aphrodite / Artist: unknown / Date: 1st Century B.C
Bed (lit à la polonaise) / Artist: unknown maker / Date: around 1775-1780
As this bed was created during Marie Antoinette's time, of course I find myself obsessed with it! Pretty excessive to be fangirling/obsessing over a bed, but hey, I don't get to see stuff like this too often! I just love how plush and comfy it looks. I was tempted to jump into the bed and take a nap, but that ain't happenin' as a security guard was standing guard by the door. *sigh*

The Vicomtesse de Vaudreuil / Artist: Élisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun (French 1755-1842) / Date: 1785
Young Ladies Admiring Japanese Objects / Artist: James Tissot (French 1836-1902) / Date: 1869
Portrait of Madame Brunet / Artist: Édouard Manet (French 1832-1883) / Date: between 1861-1863 (reworked by 1867)
Portrait of Thérèse, countess Clary Aldringen / Artist: John Singer Sargent (American 1856-1925) / Date: 1896
I just can't help imagining myself what I would've worn if I lived in that era. Probably something similar to this dress, and I wouldn't mind it at all! I just find the dress so elegant and so feminine. I love it.
Still Life with Flowers and Fruit / Artist: Claude Monet (French 1840-1926) / Date: 1869
Irises / Artist: Vincent Van Gogh (Dutch 1853-1890) / Date: Saint-Rémy, France)
There's just something about Van Gogh's work that draws me in. I'm not art expert (my sister is, sorta), but when I see his painting, I can imagine what his expression was when he painted. Now this painting that he created in France was when he was in an asylum after a mental illness attack. It's just great to see that even though people struggle through life like he did, they found a way to express themselves on canvas. And that is why I find art so beautiful and deeply meaningful.

Albert Cahen d'Anvers / Artist: Pierre-Auguste Renoir (French 1841-1919) / Date: 1881
La Promenade / Artist: Pierre-Auguste Renoir (French 1841-1919) / Date:  1870
Presumed Portrait of the Duc de Choiseul and Two Companions / Artist: Jacques Wilbaut (French 1729-around 1816) / Date: around 1775
There's just something about this painting that drew me in. Maybe it was the color palette, but as I'm looking at the painting right this moment, I realized it was Madame de Brionne's dress that drew in. From the color to the ruffled details, it made me realize how much I love fashion back in that era. So, so happy that ruffles is on trend right now because I've accumulated quite a few tops with ruffles on em'!

That's the end of The Getty post you guys! I really hope you enjoyed it. I would definitely come back in the future and I really hope you get to visit this museum one day. Worth the drive, I promise. Plus, the garden ain't too bad to look at, ey?
